Jim McClain serves as Senior Vice President and is a co-founder of Micell Technologies.
Jim has invented innovative process technologies for several of Micell's commercial applications. He has been involved in the creation and application of polymeric materials, chemical solutions and processes that apply the benefits of supercritical fluid based processing for over a decade. As described in 1994 and 1996 issues of Science, Jim was a leader on the research team that created polymer solutions and specialty detergent systems active in supercritical fluids-the founding technology for Micell. He has also led the development of supercritical -based process technology in applications for the semiconductor fabrication market and biomedical applications.
Jim has been recognized for his work with supercritical fluid and polymer solutions with prestigious awards including a 2000 International Messer Innovation Award, the 1997 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award, and 1998 and 2006 R&D 100 Awards. He has published many articles in leading scientific journals including Science, Nature, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society, and is a contributing inventor on more than fifty issued U.S. patents.
Jim holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, specializing in Polymeric Materials Engineering. He also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, receiving his Ph.D. in Chemistry on the characterization of polymeric materials and surfactants dissolved in CO2.
